Florence Riggs’s folk art designs are highlighted by stylized dinosaurs, meticulously woven into vibrantly colored rugs. She aslo created brown pitch-glazed pottery was dotted with horned toad lizards or shaped into grinning fat bears, paws raised in greeting or, perhaps, in gleeful attack. Mud-toy Uncle Sams sat astride painted mud horses.
Florence Riggs’s pictorial rugs are neither purely functional nor purely decorative. Some of this work has been displayed in major art museums and published in “fine art” catalogs.
